This year’s treasure comes from the Finca la Esmeralda, which is located near the town of San Antonio Huista in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Don Crispin Matias, the owner of the farm, used to have a grocery shop. At a certain moment in time he realized that his heart was with producing crops. He sold his shop, bought a plot of land and started a coffee farm. He named it Finca La Esmeralda (‘Emerald’) after the beautiful gems they found on his farm. For more info download the factsheet or read below.

July is the month for launching our Guatemalan coffee; its fruity and floral aroma creates a bright summer feeling. This lot consists of all ripe harvested cherries, which have been depulped directly after the picking. The coffee was then fermented for two days and washed in the early morning. To soak the beans, fresh water from a local, natural spring was used. After the soak, the coffee was dried in the sun for five days. La Esmeralda is bursting with distinct notes of dark chocolate, prunes and hibiscus. Stunning coffee!
