Reko comes from the Champagne region of coffee: Yirgacheffe. The washing station is named after the Reko-mountain, that towers above the hills of Kochere. Reko means challenge, referring to the challenging climb to the summit. Our latest special is a true Yirgacheffe coffee, called Reko. The washing station is named after the Reko-mountain, that towers above the hills of Kochere. Reko means challenge, referring to the challenging climb to the summit. The founders of the washing station used the name and its symbolic value: they see it as a challenge to produce the best Yirgacheffe coffee.

 

About the process

This famous, small region is very fertile and is located at high altitude. Therefore it delivers top quality cherries. Due to the system in Ethiopia, it wasn’t possible to buy directly from washing stations for a certain period. Therefore, it was hard to find good quality coffee from this Champagne region of coffee in the past couple of years. That’s why we’re thrilled to finally have one of our favourites back on offer.

 

Reko was one of the participating coffees in The Ethiopian Cup. This is an auction organised by Trabocca in July 2019, to reveal the best Ethiopian micro-lots of 2018-2019. The Cup invited growers from all regions in Ethiopia to submit their best coffees. The finalists were awarded with unconventional premiums. This Reko coffee ended up sixth in the competition, scoring 87+!

  • Water 250 grams at 96 degrees
  • Procedure 30 seconds bloom with 50 grams of water, fill up with water to 250 grams
